Before I go into details, there's big news!
I've designed a Coolmath-Games Mobile
site!
See the link on the upper right of this and every other page?
Grab your favorite mobile device and check it out! There, you
can learn all about how to use our games on your iPad, Droid and
Kindle Fire.Now, the the
details.
I've gotten a lot of emails from kids, parents
and teachers about iPads and our games at Coolmath-Games.com with
the problem being that they cannot play our games (or anyone else's)
on them.
Most online games are
created with a program called Flash. iPads and iPod Touches
cannot read Flash. Same with Droid smartphones and
tablets.
There is good news though!
On December 16th (2011), iSWiFTER released
a browser for the iPod and iPod 2 called
Rover. You can
download this for free at the iTunes store and it will allow you to
play over 130 of our Coolmath Games! They don't have Rover for the iPhone and
iPod Touch (yet) and there's not a browser that I'm comfortable in
recommending for this. There IS something that works alright,
but you'll need to find it on your own.
With Droid smart phones and tablets, you
can download a Flash app at the Droid market to play
over 130 of our Coolmath Games! (Note that the Flash
company, Adobe, is going to discontinue supporting this program for
mobile devices, but the current version should work just fine until
another solution comes along.)
If you have a Kindle Fire, you are all
ready to go to play
over 130 of our Coolmath Games!
Notice that I keep saying "over
130 of our Coolmath Games!" What do I mean by this?
Coolmath-Games has WAY more than 200 games and, then there are the
cool jigsaw puzzles. Well, it all depends on the controls on the game. For example,
if the game is controlled by mouse movements, you will be able to
use your finger on the tablet to do that. If the game needs
keyboard input (like the arrow keys), then it won't work.
We're totally out of luck on the puzzles since they a Java and not
Flash and not mobile devices to Java (yet.)
Also, ALL of our
Coolmath lessons have been designed to be readable on all smart
phones and tablets! So, you will never have to buy an app to
learn cool math!
As for apps, please keep in
mind that the apps you download for kids will either have ads (that
probably are not screened) or you will have to pay. I have yet
to find a mobile ad agency that allows the app owner to preview ads
that are going to run and it's really easy to accidentally click on
the ads while you are playing. So, be careful!
